The Secret President That Nobody Knew About Until Now

Most of us have played those “what if” games at least once in our lives. And one of the most popular questions is, “What would you do if you could have power for a single day?”

Things like being a superhero, a wealthy executive, or even a president. The thing is, this actually did happen to one man.

Actions And Consequences

This peculiar course of events began ten years before the United States declared civil war. While the decade-long period can seem like an eternity, the Butterfly Effect ensured that a disconnected peppering of actions and choices would twist themselves into the oddest tapestry.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most bizarre periods in the history of the United States.

Law Firm

David Rice Atchison was born in what is currently known as Lexington, Kentucky, in 1807. He was an up-and-coming lawyer who migrated his practice to Missouri in order to establish his own firm. He also had a plantation and a significant number of enslaved African Americans.

This might not seem unusual initially, but the suspense increases dramatically when we find out who one of his most well-known clientele was.

Joseph Smith

It was Joseph Smith, the man who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It also is known as the Mormon Church.

Because Mormons settled on their territory, Jackson Country, Michigan, tried to expel them. When Atchison stepped in to defend them, a sea of faithful supporters gathered to support him and helped him secure a seat in the House of Representatives in 1834.

Joining The Military

Then, in 1838, there was a stint in the state militia. When threats and active hostility were at an all-time high, Atchison enrolled in the military to help defend the religious community.

As a result, he gained more fans and allies and was elected a judge on the State Court. But things didn’t end there.
