35 Things That’re Quickly Disappearing Because Millennials Refuse To Buy Them
No one can deny that times are changing. As people change the way they think or become more conscious about the effects of their behaviors, some products become less essential than before.
People born between 1981 – 1996, referred to as Millennials, are changing their purchasing patterns. The following products are becoming less popular amongst this group.
Cars and Fuel
One of the biggest changes is the fact that millennials are no longer buying cars the way they had before. In fact, not only are they not buying cars, and as a result gas, but more and more of them are opting to not even get a driver’s license.
In the past eight years there has been a 25% decrease in drivers between the ages of 18-25.
Researchers have found a variety of reasons for this sharp decline. In more urban areas, more and more people are opting to take public transportation, eliminating the need to search for parking.
Another reason for the decline is because of the ever increasing popularity of ride sharing apps to get them where they are going.
Fabric Softener
Fabric softener is a common household item that does exactly what the name suggests. However, in recent years there has been a steady decline in it’s popularity. The reason for this might come as somewhat of a surprise.
That’s because millennials don’t understand it.
From 2007 to 2015 there was a 15% drop in sales of fabric softener. A survey showed that millennials “aren’t sure what it does” exactly.
Through the years technology that goes into washing machines has improved and millenials don’t see the need for fabric softners.
Gyms
Due to the focus on healthy living and healthy foods which has become a staple of the millennial mindset, it might come as a surprise that something else that is vanishing is gyms.
While there are still many traditional gyms around, millennials are opting for other alternatives.
That doesn’t mean that millennials don’t go to gyms anymore, they are merely opting for more specialized or boutique gyms that focus on a specific kind of workout.
These include things like CrossFit, Pilates, Kickboxing, or any other specialized workout. This means that they can focus on the kind of workout they enjoy after weighing all their options.
Breakfast Cereal
A staple in most people’s lives growing up was their morning grab for the breakfast cereal and whatever prize might be hidden inside.
However, whether it is due to overly demanding schedules or just being lazy, fewer and fewer millennials are eating cereal.
According to a survey by the New York Times, more than 40% of millennials claimed that the reason they don’t eat cereal in the morning is because it is “inconvenient”
According to the report, it “was an inconvenient breakfast choice because they had to clean up after eating it.” That’s right, washing up the bowl and spoon and putting away the box away again is apparently too much effort to deal with.
