This Is What These Historical Figures Actually Looked Like

Have you ever sat and wondered what some of the most famous figures from History actually looked like? In today’s world, we do have paintings and sculptures of kings, emperors, and the like, but these aren’t always as accurate as one might assume.

This is because of the limitations of artistic techniques back then or because those portraits were often commissioned to flatter them.

But luckily, with modern science and technology, historians and archaeologists are able to reconstruct what these historic figures really looked like.

Let’s take a look at some of the reconstructions we have compiled, but we warn you that some of them might change the way you think of certain historical figures.

King Tut

King Tut of Egypt, also known as Tutankhamun, was best known for the famous, sumptuous gold mask found in his grave.

But the real King Tut was actually a much gloomier sight. It has been discovered that the Pharoah was actually suffering from many illnesses and malformations because of inbreeding between his ancestors.

He was only 17 years old when he passed away and his appearance has been said to be pale, ill, and frail.

Nero

At just 17 years old, Nero took the title of one of the most famous emperors in the History of Rome. Just five years later, he ordered the death of his very own mother.

He was well known for being a musician, artist, and composer, but the upper classes hated him for raising taxes. In 64 A.D., it is believed that Nero himself set Rome on fire. He got dressed up, climbed up onto his palace’s roof, and started playing the lyre and singing before taking his own life.

His last words were, “What an artist dies in me!”

Queen Nefertiti is also one of the most famous figures from ancient Egypt. Many people have seen her colored bust on medallions, tattoos, and many other things.

A few years ago, a team of researchers worked together to reconstruct a 3D images of her face, based on the famous bust and other representations of the Egyptian queen. Here’s the result.

Julius Caesar is well-known for being one of the most controversial figures in all of History. He had an impressive career of military conquests before rumors started that his intentions were turning the Roman republic into an authoritarian, personal regime. This is why he was assassinated.

We have seen countless statues, representations, and descriptions of Julius Caesar, but the researchers who made this 3D model of his face have plenty of material to base their work on.
