She ripped the envelope open at looked at the number that was before her.

Was this really what was in front of her? Then she looked over to her boss’s face, it showed her all she needed to know. She felt tears start to roll down her cheeks.

Long Day

Tanna Marino squinted her eyes at her monitor while she tried to focus on the numbers that were whizzing by on the screen.

She was so tired but with three cups of coffee in her system, she chugged along. Then she stuck their head into her cubicle to look in on her.

Showing The Ropes

What her boss said was a simple enough request – a new coworker needed to see how things were done. They needed to shadow someone.

But having to show someone how things worked soon became something that put a knot in her stomach. She had applied for so many promotions but all of them had ended with a disappointing answer.

A Replacement?

They told her the same old excuse of small budgets and other jargon. It was all the same.

But even with budgets, there was a new coworker standing right there. And to make matters, she was looking to be in the same position as hers.

She knew that the kind of work she did was male-dominated which made it difficult sometimes.

She still welcomed the new face and let her work in her space and continued her work as normal. Then they got to talking.
