Transgender Stars Who Embraced Their Identities And Gained More Success
Growing up means finding yourself. This change is a complex and demanding task, especially for genderqueer people who have proven to be happier after transitioning.
Understanding one’s gender has its struggles; however, going through it with a sense of pride has proven to allow rewards to be reaped. Many celebrities can attest to living a more victorious life going through it all with a sense of pride.
MJ Rodriguez
MJ Rodriquez came to terms with her gender when she started acting and realized she was transgender with the experience of playing as characters.
After accepting her gender and welcoming it, she found success in a series about transgender women’s life in the late 80s, as Blanca on FX’s Pose, who was also a woman of colour.
She became the first trans actress to win a Golden Globe, definitely making a mark on history, and furthermore, received an Emmy Nomination for her leading role.
Elliot Page
Starring in movies from a young age, Elliot Page found himself struggling with his gender identity. Upon coming out in 2020, he expressed his joy and gratitude for all the support he had received throughout his transition experience and expressing who he was.
He plays a character in the Netflix series called The Umbrella Academy who also transitioned in the third season. His reality was being reflected in the series making it the first time to ever happen.
Elliot expressed how transitioning had aided in him becoming a better person in more ways than just one.
Laverne Cox
Laverne Cox is well recognized from her role in the series “Orange Is The New Black” from 2013. That had only been the beginning as she started playing multiple characters in series and film, adding to her repertoire.
“Orange Is The New Black” allowed for her to be nominated as the first trans person for an Emmy Award in a category.
Laverne expressed how she felt that her journey wasn’t all about her, that it was bigger than her. She was encouraging multiple icons to follow.
Hunter Schafer
Hunter Schafer, although quite young, has already found success in both a modeling career and as the lead character in the HBO series called Euphoria as Jules. She said she was grateful for the opportunity to play a transgender character expressing complex issues other than gender identity.
Struggling as a teen to identify with characters that could represent her experience, she is proud to be what she didn’t have to the young queer people today. She has made that story accessible to them.
