Can you imagine looking out on the endless sands of the desert only for something shiny to catch your eye? It could be an old soda can, but it could also be a valuable artifact lost to the ages.

These people must have felt very lucky when they stumbled upon these treasures in the desert.

Libyan Glass

This artifact is also called the Great Sand Sea glass. It is a very rare mineral that looks like a yellow stone. The mineral has only been found in Egypt and a large piece was sculpted into a beautiful scarab.

and placed in King Tut’s necklace which now resides in his tomb.

A Huge Emerald

Found far below the surface of the earth, miners were digging and stumbled upon a giant emerald weighing 800 pounds! They hired armed guards to keep the gem safe because people tried to steal it.

The person to discover it never had to work another day in their life.

Atari Landfill

One of the wilder stories is the Atari landfill. In 1983 the company Atari developed an E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial game that was so bad they couldn’t give the games away.

With thousands of copies of the game, they had to bury them out in the desert just to get rid of them. Today, some people have uncovered them and they’ve sold for good money on eBay.
