The Tree Kangaroo Is the Cutest Animal on Earth and You Probably Never Heard of It

Just when you thought there’s nothing cuter on Earth than Quokkas or Red Pandas, you hear about a Kangaroo that lives in trees. Yes, you heard us right! There is an adorable kangaroo, with the cute baby pouch, long tail, and funny feet.

The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) explains that tree-kangaroos “have adapted to life in the trees, with shorter legs and stronger forelimbs for climbing, giving them somewhat of the appearance of a cross between a kangaroo and a lemur.” You could find one, if lucky, in rainforests – both in the lowlands and in the mountains.

The lush forests for this kangaroos are their favorite place. They live in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Australia. However, if you take a trip to catch one in your wildlife photo session, you’ll have to wait… and wait, and wait again.

That’s because they love to dwell in the trees at incredible heights. This earned them the nickname “ghosts of the forest.”

It’s a Kind of Hybrid

Lisa Dabek is a conservation scientist, and she couldn’t describe this animal better than saying that a tree kangaroo is a “hybrid of a kangaroo, a koala, a sloth, a monkey, and a bear.” Can we call it slomonkoala kangabear?
