Kristen Feared ‘Ridiculous’ Weight Loss Plan

Dawn-ting Task

When Kristen Stewart signed on to play Bella Swan in the “Twilight” movies, she had no idea how popular the franchise would become.

She had read the books, so she knew what had to happen if the series was successful enough to greenlight “Breaking Dawn”, but could she ever do something like that to her body?

Born In The Spotlight

Kristen was born into a showbiz family, so she was well aware of the kind of sacrifices actors made to look the part for movies. Her father is a stage manager and television producer, while her mother is a script supervisor and director.

But she’d also seen the incredible stress actors struggle with while drastically dieting. She spoke to the producers to find out exactly what they needed her to do.

Difficult Pregnancy

In “Breaking Dawn: Part 1” – the fourth film in the series – Bella falls pregnant with her vampire husband Edward’s baby.

The producers and director Bob Condon explained that instead of getting bigger and displaying a pregnancy glow, Bella would need to appear emaciated as she struggles to carry the demonic child to term. Kristen started to sweat.

Crash Diets

She knew of other famous actors that had undergone drastic weight-loss regimens to get in shape for a role. Christian Bale lost an astonishing 63 lbs for “The Machinist” and Natalie Portman slimmed down to play a ballerina in “Black Swan”.

But the way her character needed to look for the blockbuster sequel would have required her to go way beyond what they did, making her panic about what she’d let herself in for.

Troubled Shoot

Because the movie had been scheduled to shoot completely out of sequence, there was an extra step in the process that made a weight-loss plan particularly troublesome.

“We would have had to shut down production for a couple of months for me to lose the weight or gain it back, either way,” the star stressed. It was going to take more than calorie counting to yo-yo like that. It was time to call in the experts.
