Waiters and Waitresses Speak About The Worst First Dates They Witnessed At The Restaurant
There are plenty of single people out there, wishing they had met their other half, and unfortunately, some of the first dates are bound to be epic fails.
From being stood up, to meeting the worst date ever, there are countless first date stories that will make you laugh, cringe or say OMG!
We’ve probably heard of a lot of date fails, but we know who are the people that witness these awkward encounters: waiters/waitresses or bartenders.
In an Ask Reddit thread, Reddit user Kords asked them to share with the world the worst first dates they’ve seen so far:
“Waiters/Waitresses, what was the wocrst first date you have witnessed at your restaurant?”
Impressing Your Date 101
“About a year ago, I was a sever at a sushi bar/ hibachi grill restaurant. It was a young couple. […] You could tell the girl was a little disinterested and started looking around impatiently.
Then when I brought them their food, the guy made a comment about how I was a white girl working at a Japanese restaurant. This really didn’t sit well with her, making things even more uncomfortable.
When I walked by about 10 minutes later, I saw that he had compiled the wasabi from both his and her plates and decided to eat it in one mouthful in hopes of impressing her.
About 5 seconds after swallowing, he started crying and gagging while she just made a face of pure disgust.
He got up to run to the bathroom with his hand covering his mouth with vomit shooting through his fingers and onto the floor on the way because he couldn’t keep it down.
She promptly left the restaurant.” – Reddit user Earth2Julia
Well, this is certainly not a way to break the ice! What is it with men trying to prove they’re tough, as if women asked them to display their skills right there on the spot?
Being Stood Up
“We had a lady on a first date/blind date come in last week and she has her table booked and she was a little bit early. Three hours later she was still sat at the bar waiting. The bloke had stood her up and it had really upset her.
To make matters worse he had phoned in and I answered the phone, he said that he had arrived but had seen what she looked like and that she wasn’t his type but couldn’t face her to tell her, so could we tell her.
[…] I didn’t tell her that, I just pulled my manager to one side and filled her in on what the man had said and we both agreed that was heartless so we said nothing to her.” – Reddit user Swanny767
Also, the waitress and her manager decided to open a bottle of wine for the lady, and it was on the house! And that man was a coward!
A Date With His Mom
“Work at a bubble tea restaurant right near a college. Probably the worst I’ve ever seen was this guy that looked somewhere between 17 and 19 years old who met up with this girl around the same age.
They got teas and took a seat at a table and played a board game and talked.
His mother sat at the table next to him the entire time and just stared them down. It made me feel so bad for him, but the icing on the cake is when she goes up to them at 8:30 and tells them that it’s time for the two of them, her and her son that is, to head home.
The guy is visibly mad but says goodbye to her and follows his mom out.” – Reddit user thirdratebread
As the two got out, the girl went to the bar to ask another tea and filled in the Redditor and the girls at the bar with some juicy details. It seems the mother had even interrupted their conversation and even critiqued her son’s behavior!
A Failed Date
“The guy and girl arrived separately and it seemed like they were meeting for the first time at the restaurant. They sat down then the girl excused herself and went to the bathroom.
The guy ordered drinks for them both while she was gone then, after like 30 mins, ordered two meals.
It was so obvious she wasn’t coming back but he kept calling her and eventually just left all the food and drink untouched and paid the bill.” – Reddit user lachrym0se
Now that’s just rude, no matter the reason. Ditching someone in the restaurant is not the best way to get out of an awkward date.
But even so, ordering food for the two of them after 30 minutes of waiting for her to come back from the bathroom was a bad idea.
