Grandpa Goes To Walmart to Wire $2K To Relative, Cashier Calls Cops

When a grandfather picked up the phone that fateful day, a frightened voice came down the line, “Papaw, this is your oldest grandson. I’m in trouble.” Cecil went cold with fear. He had to do something.

After imploring his grandson for more information, all he heard were the words ‘car accident’ and ‘police.’ Then, another man had come onto the line, demanding over $2,000. He was his grandson’s only hope.

But the cashier on duty was refusing to help him. He was getting desperate.

Cecil Rodgers is a senior citizen who lives alone in a care facility called Elmwood Place. The holiday season was approaching and he was looking forward to hosting his adult children over the festive period.

He had scrimped and saved his pension so that he could make this Christmas an extra special one. Only, he had no idea that someone else wanted to take it all away from him.

Turning To Grandpa

The morning that Cecil received a call from his grandson in distress, his blood ran cold. His flesh and blood needed his help, and ‘Pawpaw’ was often the first port of call when his grandchildren were too afraid of their parents finding out what serious trouble they had managed to get themselves into.

But this time, the situation was dire.

Please, Don’t Tell Anyone

The Sun

“I hit a woman’s car and she was seven months pregnant. And they charged me for drunken driving and I’m in jail,” the panicked voice continued. Then, he had begged his grandfather not to tell his parents.

Besides the humiliation he felt about the situation, his parents would ground him for life! He clearly hadn’t even begun to figure out what story he would make up about his smashed-up car.

Cecil knew he needed to get him out of jail immediately, and of course, he wouldn’t tell a soul.

The Lawyer

Cecil’s grandson then passed the phone to his public defender, who began to walk the bewildered grandfather through the steps he would need to take to get his grandson out of jail.

The 83-year-old man carefully wrote down the instructions he received from the lawyer. The first one was to drive to the local Walmart, so he got into his car, his hands shaking.
