You know that sensation when you see someone yawn, or if you even think about yawning, it makes you yawn? Well, there are some people who do not get that sensation at all. Are you one of those people? Because it turns out you may be a psychopath if you don’t yawn.

A recent study seems to suggest that the notion of “contagious yawning” reveals something deeper about our personalities. If you see someone yawn, and it causes you to yawn, it’s because of human empathy. And that means you have the ability to connect with other people and their emotional states.

On the contrary, if you don’t catch a contagious yawn, it shows that you have zero empathy for other people. For instance, babies don’t catch yawns because they don’t understand the concept of empathy yet. And if you’re an adult and don’t catch yawns, you just might be a psychopath with an inability to empathize with others.

This may sound like absolutely horrifying news if you always wondered why you couldn’t yawn. Or if you’re a psychopath like this study suggests, it may not affect you at all. Because you’re an unfeeling monster.

One thing I know is I have yawned about six times in the process of writing this article so either I’m extremely tired or I am the least psychopathic person on the face of the planet. Either way, I think I’m going to take a nap.
