Edward never noticed that Vivian’s hair wasn’t real on their first night together. But the next morning, he did see her real hair and told her she looked better without her wig.
When Edward got home, he was surprised to find that Vivian was there wearing nothing else but a tie. “Nice tie,” Edward said to her. She responded, “I got it for you.”
Vivian was embarrassed when she accidentally launched escargot from her plate. Fortunately, the maître-d was on hand to catch it. He was even nice enough to tell her that it happens to patrons all the time.
Vivian was in the bathtub singing to the popular Prince song while wearing her headphones. Unfortunately, she didn’t notice that Edward was actually watching over her.
Vivian was sipping champagne and laying on the floor like she owned the place while watching an episode of “I Love Lucy.” But she had no idea that she was being watched by Edward, who found her reaction to the show to be very amusing.
Vivian called her friend Kit to figure out where she should go shopping for new clothes. And Kit told her to go to Rodeo Drive, which is where Vivian went with Edward’s money.
Vivian wore her one-piece dress the first night she met Edward and wore it again in the morning until he gave her some money to shop for something new.
In 1964, Roy Orbison released the single “Oh, Pretty Woman” which went on to become a timeless hit. It also became the theme song for the film “Pretty Woman.”
Phillip Stuckey was a lawyer, a business associate, and a friend of Edward. The actor playing him is “Seinfeld” actor Jason Alexander. Unfortunately, the character goes from being really annoying to being a total villain.
In the film, Vivian gives Edward the chance to call her whatever it is that he wants. But he still insists on asking for her actual name.
“Pretty Woman” was released on March 23, 1990. The film ran for 1 hour and 59 minutes. But despite it being one of the best romantic comedies of the decade, it still received an R rating.
The most epic scene in the movie was when Edward snaps the necklace case shut on Vivian’s fingers and she laughs hysterically. The entire scene was improvised but the filmmakers loved Julia Roberts’ reaction so much that they left it in the film.
Vivian told Edward: “I got red, I got green, I got yellow... I'm out of purple, but I do have one gold circle coin left... the condom of champions... the one and only... nothin' is gettin' through this sucker.”
Known as the teen queen of the 1980s, Molly Ringwald was offered to play Vivian. So was Diane Lane and Sandra Bullock. But they all turned down that role and it went to Julia Roberts.
As soon as Edward walks into the lounge, Vivian says to him, “You’re late.” And Edward replies, “You’re stunning.” Then she replies, “You’re forgiven.”
Edward took Vivian to San Francisco on his private jet so they could go to the opera. While they were there, they saw La Traviata, an ironic story about a streetwalker who falls in love with a rich guy.
Edward thought Vivian had controlled substances in her possession when she hid something behind her back. Then Vivian showed him the floss and explained that she had strawberry seeds stuck in her teeth.
Edward was terrified of heights and yet, his love for Vivian was so strong that he overcame his fear when he climbed up the ladder to her apartment to see her.
The “Sleepless in Seattle” actress who is also known for her role in “A Fish Called Wanda,” was the actress that the film’s producers had originally wanted to play Vivian.
The movie was titled after the amount Edward originally paid Vivian to spend time with him. But a number didn’t really sound quite right, so they eventually changed the title to “Pretty Woman.”
As a streetwalker, Vivian had one rule and that was that she couldn’t kiss a client on the lips. But she obviously broke that rule when she fell in love with Edward.
One night, while Edward and Vivian were in the penthouse suite, he told her about how his mother made a living as a music teacher and that his dad, who was rich, dumped her for another woman.
Edward left a business party in the Hollywood Hills and borrowed Philip Stuckey’s sports car. At the start of the film, he got lost and that’s when he ran into Vivian.
The actor played a professional hotel manager with a heart of gold. Throughout the film, he helped Vivian like a fairy godfather to turn her from a sleazy streetwalker into a thing of immaculate beauty.
Edward was in the midst of raiding a ship building company by the time he arrived in Los Angeles. But Vivian’s influence convinced him that it would be best to work with the company’s president to try and save the business.
When Vivian told Edward what had happened at the store with the sales associate who refused to serve her, he decided to take his lady of the night on a shopping spree on his dime.
Edward Lewis came to town for business and planned on staying for a whole week. So, he picked the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Many of the scenes in the film take place in one of their fancy penthouse suites.
Julia Roberts had a strong Georgia accent at the time. So, producers decided to make Vivian hail from Georgia, too so that there would be no confusion and no need for Roberts to hide her accent.
Richard Gere originally turned down the role. But then, Julia Roberts talked him into accepting the part. And yet, he wasn’t the only one who said no to playing Edward. Actors Burt Reynolds and Al Pacino also said no when they were asked to play Edward.
Edward was jealous that Vivian had been talking to David Morse at the polo match. But she didn’t find out that he was jealous until after they got back to the hotel and he told her.
Edward was a corporate raider working in New York City. When Vivian asked him how he earned a living, he told her that he bought companies in the brink of financial collapse and broke them down.
Edward and Vivian were having a very personal conversation when the bellhop stopped by to drop off the champagne and strawberries they had ordered.
Edward had no idea how to drive the stick shift version of this Lotus car as he was used to driving with a model with automatic transmission. So, Vivian had to take control and drive.
Vivian slipped into a pair of pricey Chanel shoes and then helped the crowd fill the holes in the field of grass at the match. But audiences will remember how well the shoes complemented her polka-dot dress.
She initially wanted four grand but they ultimately settled on $3,000. Ironically, Edward told Vivian that he would have paid much more and she admitted that she would have taken a lot less.
Edward rode down in a limousine with opera music from “La Traviata” playing. He also had a bouquet of red roses which were intended for Vivian.
Vivian charged Edward $5 in exchange for directions to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Unfortunately, Edward only had $20's on him. So, she grabbed his money, jumped in his car, and guided him to the hotel like a flesh and blood GPS.
At this point in the movie, audiences realized that what Vivian wanted the most out of this relationship was a fairy tale ending. She had spoken to Edward about wishing she was a princess who would get rescued from a tower during their week together.
The hotel manager was a saint when he agreed to coach Vivian on proper dining etiquette. He also had his friend Bridget find something appropriate for Vivian to wear.
When an old lady at the opera asked Vivian if she liked the performance, Vivian gave her this hilarious response, much to the old lady’s shock.
Phillip was getting aggressive, and Vivian was struggling to push him off of her. Then Edward walked in and tossed Phillip from his hotel suite. In the end, his former friend wound up with a bruise for his troubles.
Vivian was so surprised by Edward’s response that she asked: "Where are they? Shopping, together?" Finally Edward admitted that he wasn’t seeing either of them anymore.
Vivian suggested he pay her to get that out of the way so they could relax. Then she used this line: "I appreciate this whole seduction thing you've got going on here, but let me give you a tip: I'm a sure thing."
In a futile attempt to hide her risqué outfit, Edward gave Vivian his brown trench coat so she could cover herself up. But people still noticed that she was a "lady of the night" when she walked into the hotel lobby.
Barney, the hotel manager, called Vivian Edward’s niece. But he knew Edward didn’t have a niece because he had told him that he was an only child.
When Edward left to go to work, Vivian didn’t order food. However, when she got out of the tub, audiences noticed that she had dirty feet when she jumped on the bed.
When Vivian called Kit and asked her to pass by the hotel to pick up some money, she gave her the name of the hotel and told her that she would leave the money at the front desk.
