In a big and surprising blow to the Colts, Andrew Luck will miss the next two to six weeks with a lacerated kidney and an abdominal injury.
Luck is coming off a huge 27-24 victory on Sunday to hand the Denver Broncos their first loss of the season. Apparently the injury happened during the beginning of the fourth quarter and Luck played through it the rest of the game.
“The injuries happened at the end of an early fourth quarter scramble when Andrew was doing everything he could to get us the win,” head coach Chuck Pagano said, via FOX Sports. “Andrew was sore after the game and was feeling a little worse Monday afternoon so we sent him to get tests.”
The tests obviously didn’t look good, as Luck’s timetable for a return remains uncertain. That means 40-year-old backup Matt Hasselbeck will get some more time behind center, which normally would be a death sentence to an NFL team, but you have to remember the Colts play in the AFC South.
Luckily for Indy (see what I did there), Luck will have an extra week to heal while the Colts enjoy their Week 10 bye. They will return on Nov. 22 for their Week 11 game against the Falcons.
