But just because they came 14 points shy of winning the Panthers' first NFL championship doesn't mean the league's players forgot what a beast Newton was in 2015.
He was awarded that league MVP and AP Offensive Player of the Year awards after throwing for 3,837 yards with a 59.8 percent completion percentage despite sorely lacking a consistent recieving threat outside of tight end Greg Olsen. Newton also rushed for 636 yards and 10 touchdowns, one shy of the league lead, en route to a 15-1 regular season record.
"I'm very proud," Newton said of his team's accomplishments. "We didn’t get in this position by happenstance. It took years of hard work and dedication."
So it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the league's players themselves voted Newton No. 1 in a list of the NFL's top 100 players.

No way Cam Newton was ranked #1, AHEAD of Tom Brady

I knew it was gonna happen but how is Cam Newton better than Tom Brady on any given day? Dude has too much hype and will never win a SB

TOM BRADY > CAM NEWTON

Tom Brady wins Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP, next year is ranked 3 on Top 100, Cam Newton wins MVP and loses Super Bowl and is ranked 1

I'd take Brady over Clam Newton 101 out of 100 times #FreeBrady

If Tom Brady isn't no. 1 in the top 100, then that's proof the nfl is rigged against him

Not happy Brady should of been #1 not #2 .. He played one of his best season even w/ players hurt. Cam Newton is no where as great as TB12
