This Steal Of Home With A College World Series Berth On The Line Was So Ballsy

Florida and Auburn met in Game 3 of their Super Regional matchup on Monday with a trip to the College World Series at stake.

One team seized the moment. The other let it hit them and bounce away.

The Tigers shot themselves in the groin twice, under pressure from Florida.

With runners at the corners and two outs in the fourth, Auburn pitcher Andrew Mitchell bit hard on the old Little League “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” trick, allowing Gators second baseman Blake Reese to steal home.

This angle shows you what Mitchell saw.

Ballsy.

The Gators’ cup-testing cunning proved important, as Auburn tied things up in the seventh before the sides went to extras.

Tigers catcher-turned-outfielder Steven Williams had a chance, albeit a tough one, to secure the first out in the bottom of the 11th.

Instead, Austin Langworthy’s shot thudded off his mitt and went over the wall for a walk-off dinger.

Thanks in part to their aggression on the basepaths, the Gators are bound for the College World Series, where they’ll compete with seven teams to try and repeat as national champions.
