After Saturday's most epic of slamfests in which some suggest the runner-up, Aaron Gordon, should have been awarded the crown over reigning champ Zach LaVine, it got many thinking, what's really a perfect dunk?
As in, what constitutes a perfect score of 50 in an NBA dunk contest?
The point comes up because, as the Inside the NBA crew repeatedly pointed out, several of LaVine's dunks were "rightfully" scored as 50s despite not being as good as Gordon's previous turn. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. (This is what made judge Shaquille O'Neal the secret MVP of the night. By being the lone holdout in a few 49-point dunks early on, at least there was some room to improve.)
Regardless of who won and who should have won, the night reminded fans of how great the dunk contest can be with the right dunkers.
Who are the right dunkers? Well, we can't say for sure. But a great place to start would be this epic compilation made by international hero Rabit, featuring every dunk to ever receive a perfect score of 50 in the NBA dunk contest since 1984.
It's almost an hour of high-flying goodness, featuring the likes of some predictable leapers like Julius Erving, Vince Carter, and Michael Jordan, and some lesser known high flyers that deserve a great many props.
