The train wreck that was Fergie’s rendition of the national anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game could have been prevented—because every singe individual to bear witness to her pregame rehearsal knew what was coming.

But of the presumably hundreds of people in the Staples Center for the rehearsal, apparently no one did anything to avert the pop artist from utter disaster and save the folks at home and in the stadium for the actual performance from some bloody eardrums.

Here’s another video, from Deadspin. Click their link to see a whole six minutes of the brutal practice session.

It gets worse. Not only did nobody say anything when they knew what was to befall viewers, but the festivity organizers had plenty of evidence that there were probably better options out there.

In 2011, she sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” before an NFL game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins, complete with a very similar sign-off.

It’s not nearly as bad, and still she got raked for it.

To cleanse your listening palette, here’s a much more tolerable remix of the NBA All-Star Game version.
