Hell Yeah, Yankees Fans Are Already Booing The Crap Out Of Giancarlo Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton wanted this.

The reigning National League MVP chose the New York Yankees, via his no-trade clause, over teams like the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants who also made trade offers to the Miami Marlins and overtures to Stanton about what they could build together.

And in his first game in front of his new hometown crowd, they treated him like dirt — because he was kinda playing like it.

During his Yankee Stadium debut, Stanton had the worst offensive game of his career, striking out in all five of his plate appearances.

By the fourth time, his new fan base had turned on him.

After the fifth, the boos got louder.

Thankfully for Yankees fans and unfortunately for those who don’t root for the Galactic Empire in “Star Wars,” Stanton didn’t seem unsettled by his awful performance or fans’ reception; Didi Gregorius’ four-hit, eight-RBI day in an 11-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays certainly helped.

“I was awful today, but Didi picked me up and the rest of the guys, so that’s what you need on a not-so-good night for an individual,” Stanton told reporters, cracking a smile. “… They didn’t need me tonight. Not ideal for me, but good thing it’s not all about me.”

So far at least, it appears Stanton won’t let the pressure of playing for demanding Yankees fans derail him.
