Fans of the NFL’s other 31 teams aren’t the only people hoping New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady hangs up his Uggs soon. His wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, is right there with you.
So much so that she apparently lobbies his friends and former teammates to convince him to call it a career.
One of those ex-teammates: retired NFL kicker Jay Feely, who overlapped with Brady for three years at Michigan and remains one of the Super Bowl-bound quarterback‘s closest friends.
From a recent Sports Illustrated feature:
Last spring Brady and his family vacationed with retired kicker Jay Feely, a close friend from their college days at Michigan. This being Brady, Feely prefers not to disclose the locale, but he does share that Brady’s wife, the supermodel Gisele Bündchen, spent time on that trip “trying to get me to convince [Tom] to stop playing.” And, Feely adds, “she was dead serious.”
Feely says he looked at his friend and told him, “Play as long as you can.” Brady smiled back and winked.
Yeah, Tom. You should retire so you can have a long, healthy existence with your beautiful wife and your kids who’ll never sunburn, and definitely not because we want our teams to have a chance to win a Super Bowl.
It’s apparently a hot-button issue in the Bundchen–Brady household—the 40-year-old QB has said he’d like to play until he’s 45.
“If it was up to my wife, she would have me retire today,” Brady told SiriusXM NFL Radio a year ago. “She told me that last night three times. And I said, ‘Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.’ You know, I feel like I can still do it, and if you love what you do and you’re capable of doing it, then … I’d be so bored if I wasn’t going out there, knowing that I could still do it. So, I’m going to work hard to be ready to go and I still plan on playing for a long time.”
Too bad, babe … the NFL’s getting dominated by a fossil.
