Joel Embiid Was Just Ridiculous In His First Game In 9 Months

Joel Embiid took the floor in a Philadelphia 76ers uniform for the first time since January on Wednesday night.

And immediately responded to anyone doubting the merits of his newly signed $146.5 million extension.

In just 14 minutes of action during a preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets, the No. 3 overall pick from 2014 notched 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a block.

The combination of his immense skill and immense immensity (7’2″ and 285 pounds, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer) was too much for Timofey Mozgov and the helplessly undersized duo of Trevor Booker and Quincy Acy.

Embiid shot more than one free throw per minute, going 14-of-18 from the stripe.

“It’s just a very potent offensive package that people sort of have to game-plan for,” 76ers head coach Brett Brown said of the center. “We see the impact that he makes on the defensive end and all over the place.

“Something like tonight will remind us all that’s why he was paid what he was paid.”

The 23-year-old said he’s still working his way into form.

“I didn’t expect that, but I’ve been working hard all summer,” Embiid said of his performance. “I didn’t have a lot of time on the court. So I feel like I’m still behind. But with repetition, it’s going to come.”

Felt amazing to get back out there and get a win… The future is bright #TheProcess
