Lou Williams Spoils Kevin Durant’s Milestone Night By Dropping 50 To Beat The Warriors

Maybe Steve Kerr should cool it with tongue-in-cheek predictions about how well opponents will fare against his Golden State Warriors.

Ahead of his squad’s game on Wednesday night, the head coach joked that the Los Angeles Clippers’ off-the-bench gunner would go for 50 in the absence of the Warriors’ Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and L.A.’s Blake Griffin.

Kerr was right: Lou Williams dropped 50 points in a 125-106 beatdown over Golden State. Sweet Lou sealed the performance with a 35-foot bomb in garbage time.

Splash Brothers or not, Williams scored his career-high 50 on a team with the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in Draymond Green and Kevin Durant, who’s third in the league in blocks per game.

Durant went for 40 himself, and his 25th stands as career point No. 20,000.

Only 44 players have reached the milestone. Durant is the second-youngest to get there, behind LeBron James.

But Golden State didn’t feel like celebrating after the loss. “They came in and just kicked our ass,” Kerr said.

Durant wasn’t lovin’ it either: “[Williams] ordered 50-piece nuggets on us tonight.”
