NFL Conditionally Reinstates Josh Gordon, Can He Save Your Fantasy Team?

This is big news for Cleveland Browns fans: “Star” wide receiver Josh Gordon has been conditionally reinstated and can return to play for the team. The reason “star” is in quotation marks is because Gordon hasn’t been able to stay on the field long enough to realize his massive potential.

When Gordon has played for the Browns, he’s put up very good numbers and looked like an elite wide receiver. The problem is Gordon just can’t avoid getting suspended for constantly violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He hasn’t played in a game since 2014, so who knows how much he has regressed.

So what does this mean for your fantasy football team? Well, it means you should claim Gordon off the waiver wire immediately. He has shown great potential and on-field capabilities in the past. His value will be at a ceiling simply because the Browns never know who their quarterback is, and once they’ve decided, their options aren’t good. But if you have an extra roster spot, it can’t hurt to add the potentially great Josh Gordon.

Surely, Gordon will be on a very tight leash upon his return and Roger Goodell has laid out some very strict conditions for Gordon to abide by. So, he may get suspended again, and ruin your fantasy team, but if you’re already sinking in the standings, it definitely can’t hurt to add Gordon. If you’re already ahead, just keep doing what you’re doing, you wouldn’t want to risk it by adding a player who could get suspended again any day now (Ezekiel Elliott, anyone?). But if you need a little extra push for your team, perhaps Gordon will be the answer.
