Odell Beckham holds numerous records on the gridiron—he’s the fastest player ever to 100, 150, 200, and 250 career receptions, and even had the record for most one-handed catches in a minute before Antonio Brown came along and broke it a month later.
But the man with lightning-quick feet and Lord of the Ring eagle talons for hands used a different tool to break his latest mark—a pen.
Nike has signed the New York Giants receiver to the most lucrative shoe deal in the history of the NFL.
The deal is reportedly worth roughly $29 million over five years, but can grow to as much as $48 million over eight years if certain plateaus are met, according to Nice Kicks. Beckham will make $1,839,027 from the Giants in 2017, the last season of his four-year rookie deal.
Thanks to his impact both on and off the field—Beckham has roughly 12 million combined followers across Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook—the wideout received strong interest from Adidas, signing a deal that forced Nike to match, which was their right.
Part of Beckham’s appeal to shoe brands is that he has creative kicks customized for each game, like these How the Grinch Stole Christmas cleats, and shares them with his millions of followers.
