Lonzo Ball enjoyed a grand summer, posting two triple-doubles in the NBA summer league. But there are no NBA All-Defensive first teamers in the NBA summer league.
Here’s Beverley hounding Ball into a turnover.
Here he is stripping the Los Angeles Lakers rookie for an easy deuce.
Here he is splashing a three in Ball’s face then taunting him.

And here’s two plays that had nothing to do with Ball, but were sick as hell nonetheless.
Ball finished with three points on miserable 1-of-6 shooting, adding nine rebounds, four assists, and two turnovers. His team was outscored by 14 when he was on the floor in a 108-92 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
A deeper look at the numbers shows what kind of effect Beverley had on Ball.

After the game, Beverley told the rookie that his shamelessly loudmouthed father LaVar Ball has effectively drawn a target on the rookie’s back.
Beverley on Lonzo Ball: “I told him after the game, due to all the rifraff his dad brings he’s going to get a lot of people coming at him.”

LaVar Ball fallout: EVERY guard wants to shut down Lakers Lonzo Ball b/c of his dad’s yapping. Patrick Beverley was just the first of many.

Predictably, LaVar lashed out at Beverley after the loss.
“Yeah, you shut the [expletive] down, and your check still ain’t going to go no higher than what it is. Yeah, you shut him down,” he said, according to ESPN. “OK … Who is Patrick Beverley? He played all last year and nobody said nothing about him. Now we are looking at your first game. Why? Because Lonzo’s name is attached to it.”
He’s one of the best defenders in the league, and he just handed your son’s cooked ass to you on a platter.
