A fight that many looked at as possibly the biggest MMA fight of 2016 looks like it is going to have to wait.

According to multiple reports, including MMAFighting, Rafael dos Anjos has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 196 main event bout against Conor McGregor due to injury.

The injury being reported is a broken foot.

UFC 196 is scheduled for March 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The fight between McGregor, the UFC featherweight champion, and UFC lightweight champion dos Anjos was to be contested at the lightweight limit. If McGregor proved victorious, he would have become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts simultaneously.

The UFC has not commented on the injury as of yet.

This is not the first time McGregor has lost a title fight this close to fight day. In July of last year, Jose Aldo pulled out of his UFC 189 fight against McGregor with broken ribs. The UFC inserted Chad Mendes into that fight and made the contest for the interim title.

McGregor dispatched Mendes at the 4:57 mark of Round 2 in that bout, earning a TKO win and the interim title. McGregor then unified the featherweight titles when he knocked out Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194 in December.

One thing is for sure, if the UFC wants to keep McGregor on this card, they will have many fighters to pick from. The featherweight champion has found his name on the lips of many contenders since he joined the UFC in 2013.
