White also said that he had to inform Rousey the result of the fight, the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC 196. Instead of watching the fight, Rousey had attended a pro wrestling event. When informed that Tate had won the fight by choking Holm unconscious with a rear-naked choke, Rousey told White, “Looks like I gotta get back to work.”
The UFC president was unsure exactly what Rousey meant by that since she is not scheduled to return to the Octagon until November or December.
As for Tate, when the new champ was asked if she thought a fight with Rousey was the right move, she replied, “The right move feels like drinking a Budweiser and eating cupcakes and then I will talk to my management team, and we will discuss what’s next and then we will talk to the UFC. My job as the champion is to fight the next best person so whoever that is, I’ll fight them.”
Tate also had nothing but kind words for Holm, who very easily could have sat and waited to fight Rousey instead of taking a fight against Tate.
“I want to say thank you to Holly for stepping up when she could have waited,” said Tate. “In my mind, that woman is still a champion (and) will always be. (She has) a ton of my respect, and if I ever get the honor to step in there with her again I would love to.”
Rousey and Tate have fought twice before. Rousey won both of those fights by armbar submission.
