Marcus Williams had one job.
All the rookie New Orleans Saints safety had to do was make sure no one got behind him on the final play of his team’s divisional-round matchup with the Minnesota Vikings to wrap up a 17-point comeback.
Instead, he whiffed in spectacular fashion, and while he tripped into future blooper reels, Stefon Diggs sprinted into Vikings lore with a 61-yard walk-off touchdown to send his squad to the NFC Championship Game.

Williams put together a hell of a rookie campaign, hauling in six interceptions during the regular season. His pick of Case Keenum in the third quarter was key to a Saints comeback from down 17-0 at halftime.

Marcus Williams pulled a real life representation of what it’s like when you hit the hit stick way too early in Madden

At least his coach had his back after the gut punch of a defeat.
Sean Payton on Marcus Williams on final play: He’s played well for us all year. It was a timing decision obviously. You’d like to have that one back, but he’s played well for us all year.
