Tom Brady took a lot of heat for exiting the field without congratulating Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles following his New England Patriots‘ 41-33 Super Bowl defeat.

But the three-time MVP would congratulate at least one member of the Eagles defense that finally got to the quarterback on the biggest play of the game: Derek Barnett, the man who reeled in the fumble caused by Brandon Graham’s late-game sack of Brady.

According to TitansOnline‘s Jim Wyatt, Brady and the Eagles rookie stopped to chat in the stadium, shook hands, and hugged before parting.

“It’s crazy,” Barnett said of the encounter. “I told him how I looked up to him when I was younger. I told him to be able to compete against him, it was an honor.

“And he was super cool. He told me we had a hell of a season, and we deserved it. And he told me to keep working hard. He’s a great player, and a great competitor. I feel like I was lucky to be able to go against one of the greatest football players to ever play the game.”

Brady’s wife, Giselle Bundchen, was similarly gracious with Eagles she encountered following the game.

Which is a huge step up from how she handled her husband’s last loss in the Super Bowl.
