For many pitchers, it can be a bit difficult throwing an easy lob to first base after firing fastballs 60 feet to home plate. Just ask Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester.

Lester has what we call ‘the yips’—known to most as a golf term for Tiger Woods not being able to chip and putt. But Lester has his own issues—demonstrated last week on a terrible pickoff throw to first base:

That was the first time Lester threw a pickoff to first since April 30, 2013. So it’s understandable why he’s a bit rusty.

Jon had a simple cure for his yips problems on Sunday when a ground ball was hit his way. Rather than throwing the ball like a normal person, he decided to toss his glove and the ball at the same time:

The amazing part wasn’t Lester’s throw to first; it was Anthony Rizzo’s ability to drop his own glove in order to catch Lester’s.

Unfortunately, Lester’s sensational fielding wasn’t enough to lift the Cubs, as they lost to the San Diego Padres 5-2. Lester is off to a difficult start since joining the Cubbies, going 0-2 with a 6.89 ERA.
