Damn, Yu Darvish Is One Hell Of A Dude

It’s been a rough few months on the mound for Yu Darvish.

The starter suffered two brutal losses as his team fell in the 2017 World Series.

Then he got off to a disappointing start in 2018 before succumbing to triceps tendinitis in his throwing arm.

But the 31-year-old hurler’s struggles haven’t rendered him any less of a good dude; of course, signing a $126 million contract with the Cubs in the middle of those tribulations didn’t exactly hurt.

On assignment for a rehab start, Darvish used some of that fortune to treat his minor league teammates to Ruth’s Chris Steak House in the clubhouse after a game. This is a fairly common practice among well-paid players during pitstops in the minors, considering minor leaguers’ usual provisions.

The Darvish difference: He also catered the clubhouse of his opposition, the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Tigers’ Single A club.

Back in October, Darvish issued an incredible response to a racist gesture Yuli Gurriel made after homering off the righty in the World Series:

No one is perfect. That includes both you and I. What he had done today isn’t right, but I believe we should put our effort into learning rather than to accuse him. If we can take something from this, that is a giant step for mankind. Since we are living in such a wonderful world, let’s stay positive and move forward instead of focusing on anger. I’m counting on everyone’s big love.

Yeah, this guy rules.
