Gibson, whose father was known to be virulently anti-Semitic, said to the male police officer during his 2006 DUI arrest, “F—ing Jews… the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” The police report leaked to TMZ, sparking a major outcry and backlash against the actor. Gibson issued a public apology for his drunken behavior. He asserted that his words were “blurted out in a moment of insanity,” and he later discussed the details of his comments with TV host Diane Sawyer, again apologizing for his behavior.
