Caligula’s Sanity
Many people think that Caligula was insane and that he lived, at least for some time in his life, in an institution. That’s highly unlikely. What is likely is that he had a sadistic and sarcastic sense of humor, something that wasn’t common at the time. He also never appointed a horse Consort Consul. Consort Consuls had to be elected. What he did say was “my horse could do a better job than you.”
