It’s insane that people believe that every single Roman soldier was paid in salt. You really believe that everyone put their lives at risk for a cart of salt? The source of this tall tale came from a man named Pliny, and there’s really no evidence to back this up. The fact that he wrote this hundreds of years after it supposedly happened doesn’t help either.
