Many people believe that the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods were dirty and disease ridden. Back in that time, diseases were linked to bad smells, so no one wanted to smell badly if they could help it…even the poor. They wore linen, cleaned their clothes almost weekly and did not eat rotten meat. And yes, dental hygiene was a thing back then too.
