The LaLaurie Mansion, Louisiana

Juliette Robert / Haytham Rea Redux

Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie was a local socialite who threw lavish parties in her mansion in the 19th century. But in 1834, cops arrived at the property because of a kitchen fire and discovered mutilated slaves in the attic. When the locals learned about this, they ran her out of town. But to this day, people reportedly hear the screams of those she victimized.
