The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, West Virginia

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum opened its door to patients in 1864 and was built to accommodate up to 250 people. But by 1950, the asylum had 2,400 patients who underwent electroshock therapy and lobotomies over the years. Although the asylum was shut down in 1994 for poor conditions, it’s rumored that the patients who died here continue to roam the halls and haunt the living.
