Whaley House, California
In 1857, Thomas Whaley built his family estate on the site where a thief named Jim Robinson was hanged four years earlier. As a result, Whaley’s family suffered a series of suicides and horrible deaths, some of which happened inside the estate. So naturally, visitors report smelling heavy perfume and cigar smoke from the ghosts of the family members that haunt the house.
