Civic Arena Pittsburgh

Very few arenas had a façade as iconic as the one of the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, famously known as the Mellon Arena. Its igloo-like dome can be recognized from miles away. The dome itself can be fully retracted; however, in 1995, that was halted. In 2001, the whole stadium closed its gates permanently. There is no doubt that the Mellon Arena was an architectural feat. Unfortunately, despite the protest of fans, demolition was still done. It was completed in 2012.
