The Silverdome had the honor of being called the “largest stadium in the NFL”. It also had a few architectural firsts. Its Teflon coated dome was definitely one of a kind. Located in the middle of Michigan, the Silverdome was opened in 1975. It was the designated home of the Detroit Lions until 2001. The lions moved to Ford Field and the Silverdome was left unused and vacant. In 2017, the dome was finally partially demolished and in 2018, the rest of its surviving parts were also destroyed.
