As the auctioneers and the protagonists of our story later found out, Madame and Henri didn’t sell the apartment. It remained in Florian’s name until her granddaughter’s death which was in 2010. It is incredible how no one knew of the apartment.
Decades after WWII had ended, a group of auctioneers was going around France and investigating abandoned apartments. When they came across Madame de Florian’s, they couldn’t enter it or sell any of its assets because the granddaughter was still alive.
