The most spectacular discovery was a book written by Boldini’s wife, describing their relationship and mentioning how he painted Marthe in 1888 when she was just 24 years old.
It was yet another proof that the auctioneers weren’t wrong and that the famous painter was mesmerized by the Parisian courtesan. She described that Marthe was one of Paris’s most popular women at the end of the 19th century.
