Washington’s reasoning was far from how he felt about Roberts, it was rather that he was opposed to reinforcing Hollywood’s controlling beauty ideals. The actor also said that he was worried about what reaction African-American women might have while watching him kissing a white woman. Roberts wasn’t bothered at all by the thought of kissing Washington. “Of course, I wanted to kiss Denzel. It was his idea to take the damn scenes out”, she said.
