The U.S Navy had submariners at only 1.6% of its personnel, but they were crucial in sinking 55% of the Japanese ships. Nonetheless, it also shows that the mistake was already made – the German U-Boats were around since the first World War, so why didn’t the American troops invest in a bigger submarine fleet to cut the catastrophic losses?
