General Bernard Montgomery concocted the Operation Market Garden. If followed through, the Soviets wouldn’t have taken over Berlin and the German lines would have seen a narrow thrust. The victory looked like it was close for the Allied forces but reaching Arnhem, troops had to retreat after losing thousands of men.
