In 1939, Albert Einstein wrote a letter to FDR about uranium enrichment and that it could be used by the Germans as a bomb. The Germans had a head start, already discovering it and researching on it. The FDR had a more cautious response and developed a committee to research this matter but didn’t build the first atomic bomb until 1941. Many of the physicists Germany lost were Jewish, and they didn’t continue developing the project.
