12. Landing On Italy’s Shores
The British and American troops arrived on the shores of Italy close to Anzio on January 22, 1944. They didn’t encounter a heavy resistance and even completed many important tasks early. The Germans were not ready to be invaded. However, instead of moving fast toward Rome, the Allied prepared and waited, allowing the Germans lead an assault ending in four months of bloody fights.
