Troy: Umbrellas Casting Shade On Accuracy

Troy was one of the biggest box office successes of 2004 and it was well-received by the public even though critics didn’t react as well. Since it was based on Homer’s Iliad, it was understandable that the scale of the movie had to be grand and over the top while still remaining historically accurate. The grand spectacle and accuracy, however, was slightly broken by one single scene. When Orlando Bloom’s Paris rides through the city under a shade of a pink umbrella many people were outraged. The reason the scene caused outrage is that not only does it seem a bit unlikely for a warrior to use something so frilly, umbrellas had also not been invented yet.
