18. The State Flag Designed By a Kid
Alaska’s state flag represents the Big Dipper and the North Star over a deep blue background. Benny Benson, a 13-year old kid, designed the flag in the late 1920s. The young boy won a watch with the flag emblem and also a scholarship of $1,000! The state flew the flag in 1927 for the first time.
