These Unexpected Photos Were Taken By Drones At Just The Right Moment

The Giant Hole In Guatemala

Atlas Obscura

This photo that was captured by a drone shows a huge sinkhole that opened in Guatemala City. The hole appeared in 2010 after tropical storm Agatha hit the area. The hole swallowed a three-story factory. According to experts, many different factors, not all of them natural, played a part in creating this massive chasm, including the eruption of the Pacaya volcano. The whole was about 300 feet deep and 65 feet wide. According to experts, giant holes like this are becoming more and more common in Guatemala City. This is partly due to the city’s lack of strict rules when it comes to building codes and zoning.
