Pompeii’s Sizable Population Perished From the Volcanic Eruption

With a population of around 15,000 people, Pompeii lost approximately 2,000 of its residents with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Some people fled the city for refuge while others perished beneath the ash. As a result of the eruption, a total of 16,000 lives from Pompeii and other surrounding areas were lost.
